Every year around the holidays I throw a cookie exchange party. What was once a friendly get together with overindulgence of wine and sugar has turned into a cutthroat cooking competition and this is in great part thanks to Scott’s edible creations.

For the first ever cookie party, held in December of 2008, I remember specifically telling Scott, “Don’t worry about baking cookies, you can bring something store bought. It’s all about getting into the holiday spirit.” Saying this I was expecting him to bring your typical holiday green and red sprinkled cookies. But no, in true 24-single-male fashion, he brought a bag of Famous Amos cookies, justifying the gesture by saying they were his favorite. Well a few years go by, and with the passing of time not only do we get older, but dare I say some of us get wiser—Scott being the prime example. In December of 2012, Scott brought his best to the cookie competition, creating a deliciously indulgent chocolate cookie crumble ball, which he initialed in icing all the partygoers’ names. How could he not win, and he was crowned with the Pooping Reindeer Trophy. A year goes by and come December 2013 the air is thick with the competitive spirit. So what does Scott do? He creates individual warm chocolate chip cookies with a dollop of ice cream to be eaten on the spot. The judges didn’t stand a chance; like the ice cream softening over the warm cookie, they too melted and gave Scott the highest honor for the second year in a row. In true American competitive fashion, everyone was in an uproar at their own defeat and demanded new rules be put in place. But to see the progression from a bag of Famous Amos to a melt-in-your-mouth creation, it has been a pleasure having you feed us all.
